Description
This is the dried form of the flowers of the Blue Butterfly Vine, a type of orchid. Its most important characteristic is the blue color it gives off when brewed. It also turns purple when combined with acid, and this property is often used by adding lemon to tea.
When consumed as an herbal tea, its floral and sweet flavors are prominent, but its aroma is not as dominant as that of other flowers. Throughout history, it has been preferred in Indonesia and India for its stress-reducing and relaxing properties.
Its popular blue-purple color also makes it a natural food coloring. It is brewed in bottles or jars, either blue or lemon-purple, and kept refrigerated to add color to cold drinks.
Blue tea is also quite suitable for cold brewing. Add 8-10 grams of blue tea to 500 ml of boiled and cooled water or milk and let it steep for 4-5 minutes. Then, remove the flowers from the tea and sweeten the tea with a teaspoon of honey, if desired. Let it cool. Once it reaches room temperature, either plain or with the same amount of milk, and refrigerate until chilled. After cooling, your cold blue tea is ready to drink.
